Pookie Don Biography
Pookie Don, Don Paul, or DON P was born in Wyoming before moving to Texas as an infant. He was raised in the Bryan/College Station area. Pookie’s long standing passion for music can be traced back to his childhood prestige in marching band while living in Bremond, at one point achieving the title of second-best drummer in the state of TX. He continued to pursue his natural ability for rhythm, and his interest in music was affected monumentally during the 1990s, as DJ Screw’s legendary grey tapes began to flood the Texas underground scene. It was during this time that Pookie met CEO of Dirty 3rd Records, BNard Gambrell. Pookie became a regular at DJ Bull's hip-hop shop, where he was a humble observer to the business world of Dirty 3rd artists such as Chalie Boy and Tite.
Pookie moved several times throughout Texas, remaining close to local shows and promoting his favorite artists in any way he could. While Pookie’s own music was in its infancy, he continued to be a positive supporter of Texas artists. He had the honor of meeting artists such as Big H.A.W.K, Big Moe, G.R.I.T Boys, and others who he claims encouraged his continued efforts in music. After years of moving, he settled down in Riverton, WY, which became the birth place of the group 1000% Underground, a local group that Pookie help create and was also a member of at 1 time. Pookie Don has reached out to legendary Houston producer Sean Solo Jemison, whose career has included Dead End Alliance’s “Heart of a Hustler”, co-producer of Drake’s “HYFR”, and being an American Music Award Nominee, MTV Award Winner, and Grammy Nominee. He's also reached out to HeavyWeight produce ESSAY POTNA for some beats, as well as BLAK FOREST!! Another producer who's done a lot of work with Don Paul is San Antonio base producer/engineer ALMARI.
Look out for Pookie making moves back in Texas since moving back in 2014, as he's finishing up the much talked about album “A TASTE OF TEXAS” which also features his longtime friend, and classmate since 4th grade, Blacc Tryppa or B.A. This album also has some features from a few Houston Legends and will also have a bonus SCREWED N CHOPPED song from DJ RED the official Screwed Up Records and Tapes DEEJAY!! This album is set to drop around mid July.
